Common questions
How does billing work?
SOAPNoteAPI uses a prepaid balance model. You add funds to your account, and usage is deducted automatically as you generate notes. You can add funds anytime from the dashboard in preset amounts ($25, $50, $100, $500) or any custom amount (minimum $5). There are no monthly fees, no contracts, and no caps.
What is the $10 signup credit?
Every new account receives a $10 credit automatically — no credit card required. This is enough to generate approximately 20 SOAP notes, so you can fully evaluate the API before adding funds. You can also use the interactive Playground at app.soapnoteapi.com to test without writing code.
How does graduated pricing work?
Your per-note rate decreases as your cumulative usage increases. The first 999 notes cost $0.50 each. Notes 1,000 through 4,999 drop to $0.40 each, and so on down to $0.20 per note at 100,000+. Visit summaries are always a flat $0.10 each.
Is a BAA included?
Yes. A Business Associate Agreement is available at no additional cost. To request a BAA, email support@soapnoteapi.com. We are HIPAA-compliant by design — data is encrypted in transit and at rest, and notes are not retained beyond their configured expiry.
Do you store patient data?
No. By default, transcripts and generated notes are not retained after the configured expiry period. The API is designed as a processing pipeline: data in, structured note out. Audit logging records access events, not clinical content.
Is there a trial or sandbox mode?

What does "Custom templates" mean on Enterprise?
On the Enterprise tier, you can submit your own SOAP note templates — specific section headings, required fields, output formatting — and the API will generate notes that match your template exactly.
